Heritage Rail Bridge

at the mouth of the Denmark River

The Wilson Inlet Heritage - Nornalup Rail Trail stretches from the South Coast Highway in the east along the North East side of the Inlet, past Crusoe Beach and continues through the forest and valleys to Nornalup in the West. The Heritage Rail Bridge, at the mouth of the Denmark River, is a good point to join the trail east or west.

Find the Bridge

The Bridge is easily accessed from Denmark Town driving south along the river (Hollings Drive) where you will find parking spaces, picnic tables and a gazebo set for tourists.

Take a stroll across the bridge and along the trail on the north side of the Inlet. It is also a lovely walk along the river either from town, or down to the river mouth. There is a parking at the rivermouth.

Home to the Black Swan, Western Australian Pelicans, and Red Tailed Black Parrots the Inlet is a haven to birds from both hemispheres. Several Aboriginal Fish Traps and Shelters are located along the trail.

Heritage Rail Trail

The Rail Bridge offers direct access to the Rail Trail along the north side of the Wilson Inlet. The Rail Trail is part of the Munda Biddi Trail.

Denmark Heritage Rail Trail

The Heritage Rail Bridge is at the start of the Denmark - Nornalup Heritage Rail Trail

There are three sections of this trail currently open, Wilsons Inlet to Denmark (7.5kms) , Denmark to Parker Rd (33kms), and Peaceful Bay Rd at Bow Bridge to Nornalup (14kms). There are four original timber rail bridges in use on the trail.

"Denmark River mouth on Inlet Drive is the trail hub and accessed adjacent to the Denmark Caravan Park at the southern end of Hollings Rd. It is where the Denmark River flows into the Wilson Inlet, and this is where the Bibbulmun track, the Denmark to Nornalup Heritage Trail, the Wilson Inlet Heritage Trail, the Mokare Trail and still other Denmark walk trails meet and intersect." The Munda Biddi Trail Foundation.

Walking on the Heritage Rail Trail heading east across the northern side of the inlet is a relatively flat, slightly curving path through the forest. Suitable for bikes, this trail is popular for cycling and horse riding. One section of the Heritage Rail Trail is now part of the Western Australia's world-class, long distance, off road cycling trail The Munda Biddi Trail
